Dental Consumables · Provisional Restorations
3M Protemp 4 is designed to fabricate durable provisional restorations that protect prepared teeth while permanent restorations are being made. Advanced bis-acryl technology combined with an easy automix delivery system lets clinicians produce highly aesthetic temporary crowns, bridges, inlays, and onlays with excellent marginal adaptation. Its advanced cross linked bis-acryl resin matrix delivers superior mechanical strength compared to conventional acrylic provisional materials. Low shrinkage minimizes marginal discrepancies, while excellent polishability creates highly aesthetic restorations with long lasting gloss and stain resistance.
Sets automatically in approximately five minutes without requiring a curing light at any stage.
Consistent proportioning through the blue mixing tip eliminates manual mixing errors.
Suitable for both direct chairside fabrication and indirect laboratory assisted provisional restorations.
Minimal heat generation during polymerization helps protect pulpal tissues throughout setting.
Minimal odor and taste compared to conventional acrylic materials.
Achieves a highly aesthetic, glossy finish using conventional polishing discs and pastes.

Clinical applications
Practice settings
Material selection for provisional restorations depends on the clinical scenario, expected wear duration, and esthetic requirements. Always follow the manufacturer’s guidelines for the selected provisional cement.
Keep in a cool, dry location away from direct sunlight and excessive heat. Never freeze.
Higher temperatures reduce working time; cooler temperatures extend it. Plan the workflow accordingly.
The set material in the used tip seals the cartridge between sessions. Replace with a fresh tip before the next use.
Apply petroleum jelly to gingival tissues before dispensing to ease cleanup and reduce irritation.
Verify the expiry date on the cartridge. Expired material may exhibit reduced mechanical properties.
Use a 10:1 ratio dispensing gun only. An incorrect ratio gun will give an improperly mixed material.
Dispense and discard a small amount before filling the matrix to ensure fresh, well mixed material from the start.
For qualified dental professionals only. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions and applicable regulations.
Read before use: this page is for product information only and is not clinical guidance. 3M Protemp 4 must be used by qualified dental professionals in line with the manufacturer’s full instructions for use and all applicable local regulations.
Protemp 4 uses a 10:1 ratio dual barrel automix cartridge. Base and catalyst components are simultaneously dispensed through the blue mixing tip and combine to form a homogeneous bis-acryl resin that sets by auto curing in approximately five minutes.
